Procopius Hantschke (* 17. Mai 1731 in Radibor als Jan Jurij Hančka / Johann Georg Hantschke; † 5. Juli 1789 im Kloster St. Marienstern) war ein MΓΆnch des Klosters Neuzelle und sorbischer Schriftsteller.

Leben

Johann Georg wurde am 17. Mai 1731 als Sohn des Lehrers Paulus (PawoΕ‚) und dessen Ehefrau Agnes (HaΕ„ΕΎa) in Radibor geboren und getauft. Von 1750 bis 1751 studierte er am Wendischen Seminar in Prag und von 1757 bis 1758 erneut Theologie in Prag. Seine Profess legte er am 1. November 1752 im Kloster Neuzelle ab und er wurde am 18. Oktober 1758 in Bautzen zum Priester geweiht. Er arbeitete von 1759 bis zu seinem Tod als Kaplan im Kloster St. Marienstern, wo er in der Klosterkirche bestattet wurde.

Er bemΓΌhte sich um die Erneuerung der sorbischen Rechtschreibung und aufgrund seiner Arbeit betitelte ihn der Bautzner Domdekan als β€žsorbischen Gottschedβ€œ.
